Abstract: »Audiences are still very uncomfortable with stories about male rape victimisation. Whereas women’s sexual violence victimisation has been represented in complex and meaningful or sleazy ways (for example, Promising Young Woman (2020)), male rape victimisation tends to be joked about or presented for its potential comedic value. Films like Get Hard (2015) and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007) trade jokes off male prison rape fears.
This chapter will examine how prison rape is often joked about in film and television comedies and argues that the use of this humour promotes conservative gender norms related to masculinity and male sexual violence victimisation as well as supporting conservative criminal justice responses.« (Source: Univeristy of Tasmania)
